Recommended Travel:
International travelers should fly into San Jose’s Juan Santamaria Airport (SJO). United Airlines offers a nonstop flight from Newark (EWR), while Delta has a nonstop from Los Angeles (LAX). Iberia has nonstop flights from Madrid (MAD), while other European flights generally route through Miami, FL (MIA) or Panama City, Panama (PTY). Keep in mind that your return flight options are limited by the early morning domestic flights.
For domestic travel from SJO to Puerto Jimenez (PJM), we recommend Sansa Airlines (located in a separate and brand new domestic terminal which is a 5 minute walk or 2 minute cab ride from SJO). We will happily assist you with booking so that you can safely make your connections.
We are also happy to arrange for private charter service via helicopter or private plane anywhere in the country. This gives you the advantage of being on your own schedule.
Once you land in Puerto Jimenez, we will have transport waiting for you. Local, licensed cab drivers provide 4x4 transport for up to 5 people and luggage for approximately $50 total each way. The ride from airstrip to lodge is approximately 35 minutes along a dirt road.
Driving from San Jose takes approximately 7 hours with stops, and any number of international rental car companies provide car options. Make your reservation online with the agency of your choice, and after you clear immigration and baggage claim/customs, go to the appropriate kiosk and a representative will assist you and shuttle you to your vehicle. Remember that driving in Costa Rica involves roads and signage that is below first world standards and we strongly suggest that you travel within the speed limits and during daylight hours. For directions, Waze and Google Maps are best, and our location is available in both apps.
