THE LODGE

is located in the Southwest portion of Costa Rica, on the tip of the Osa peninusla, in the area of Matapalo, 18 Kilometers South of Puerto Jimenez.

Recommended Travel:
Fly to San Jose, Costa Rica on your airline of choice. We recommend Continental which has nonstop flights from Newark, NJ or Houston, TX. Continental is also the cheapest flight from London Heathrow, Frankfurt and Paris.

After arriving in San Jose you will need to take a 50 minute flight to Puerto Jimenez via Nature Air or Sansa Airlines. Tickets cost on average $100 per person per oneway flight. (Surfboards longer than 6'8" can present problems on planes. Removable fins are recommended.)

NOTE FOR NATURE AIR: Flights on Nature Air to Puerto Jimenez leave from another airport (Pavas) 30 minutes away. You can go immediately outside the terminal to the kiosk directly in front and take a taxi (about $15) or use Nature Air's shuttle service which is around $78 for 4 people and bags. Flights leave early in the morning and between noon and 3pm. If your flight into San Jose gets in after 2:00 PM, you will need to plan on spending the night in San Jose.

We recommend our friends at Tierra Magica who have a beautiful B&B Just a few minutes away from the Pavas airport. They can pick you up from Juan Santamaria airport (the airport you fly into) for $25 and from Pavas for $12.

For a full service hotel, we recommend Grano de Oro (high end) and Hotel La Sabana (budget) as nice options. The food at Grano de Oro is excellent, although pricey for Costa Rica.
You can also do a search for a hotel or B&B on TripAdvisor.com to find the best one that suits your needs. You can then use the remainder of your day to explore San Jose.

NOTE FOR SANSA AIR: Flight times are similar to Nature Air but Sansa leaves from a different terminal in the international airport complex(Juan Santamaria). After you pick up your bags, exit the main terminal and then walk 200m to your left to reach the Sansa office (hire a porter for $1 a bag or so if you have lots of luggage). Sansa planes are typically Cessna 208s, which have only one engine and are slightly smaller than Nature Air's planes (typically de Haviland Otters, which have two engines and can hold about 18 people versus a single engine and 12 people in the 208).

Once you land in Puerto Jimenez, Osa Clandestina will have transport waiting for you. Transportation for guests is provided by local cab drivers at the Puerto Jimenez airport for a modest fee of $35 (up to 5 persons), for the thirty-five minute ride to the lodge.

We suggest a length of stay to be from 3 to 7 days. Packages are available at reduced prices for stays longer than 7 days.

If you are the adventurous type and have more time for your trip, you can also drive from San Jose to Puerto Jimenez. The drive takes about 7 1/2 hours with much of Costa Rica's unseen beauty en route. You can choose to drive the costal road along the Costanera (Pacific Coast Highway) or via the inland route which takes you along the continental divide and through the Cerro Muerte and its legendary cloud forests. Be advised, this mountainous route is a far more challenging drive, to say the least. Driving affords the opportunity for side trips, such as those to Monte Verde and the Arenal Volcano, which is quite spectacular. Contact us for advice on interesting diversions...
